Are you interested in improving STEM education?

Consider Field Testing a Gender Equity Framework adapted to your curriculum and your student's needs.

Project Summary

Equitable Science, Technology, Engineering, Education, and Mathematics Skills (Project ESTEEM) is a three-year Advanced Technological Education (ATE) project that will develop, field test, and disseminate community college student instructional materials and related teacher support materials. The Project will prepare and predispose students, particularly minority female students, to pursue further course work in STEM fields, thereby helping them build their self-esteem and enhance their career options.

The Project mission is to establish confidence by building competence. ESTEEM will more fully engage community college women in STEM education by strengthening their knowledge, skill, and leadership abilities, thus enhancing their ability to pursue promising and viable STEM careers.

To accomplish this task we have developed a framework (as a living document) to enable instructors and curriculum developers to equitably adapt existing STEM materials so that an educational environment is created that is enriching for students of both genders and especially appealing to community college females. We have adapted an exemplary curriculum module to illustrate and model the utilization of the Equity framework.

We are looking for Community College Faculty to field test a ~2 week long module which they will adapt to an NSF-developed gender equity framework in a course during Fall (2010).  The intent of the framework is to make the material more engaging for groups typically underrepresented (particularly women) in STEM fields.

The workshop will prepare faculty in the use of the framework and developing a module for their own course materials.

We will be offering detailed instructions to implement the framework in your course.   We will also give you advice and support to implement a module of your own choice for your particular course and students.

If you are a Faculty member selected for Field Testing:
